On July 27, Midgard for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam) appeared. After the trailers had promised an action-packed survival RPG, the players have gotten a clear different impression after the release. This is also reflected in the reviews.
What is this for a game? In TRIBES OF MIDGARD, you play a fallen Viking, who is called once again after his death as a single jar in the fight. You should protect the seeds of the world tree Yggdrasil and prevent Ragnarök, the dawn.
To do this, you play alone or in a team of up to 10 players in randomly generated worlds, collect resources, builds equipment, and defends your base. Regularly, the monsters of the underworld or even powerful giants use special skills to your settlement.
Every round starts again from 0 and you have to rebuild your character, you can choose one of the 8 classes of the game, and introduces you to new dangers. Through the different rounds in which you are always recent, Tribes of Midgard is a kind of "roguelike".
How does it happen? The first reactions to Tribes of Midgard are mixed. The game appeared on Tuesday, July 27 for PlayStation consoles and PC. On Steam, reviews are currently "balanced" with 61% positive votes of 1,137 reviews.
In the press, TRows of Midgard previously is quite good, Screen Rant, for example, refers to as "fantastic Viking adventure" (via Screenrant.com). However, there are only quite a few reviews and no Metascore yet.
TRIBES OF MIDGARD as "Better Tower Defense Game"?
This is criticized: One of the biggest criticisms is that Tribes of Midgard looked very different in the run-up as the finished game. In the trailers, you saw players together fighting and building buildings - more like a survival RPG, a mixture of Valheim and Diablo.
The game is now like release according to the player, however, rather a co-op roguelike, survival and RPG elements are barely available. Although there are cold and heat, no desire for food, and the classes are reset each time. Steam users Moowl throw summarizes his experience so:
Unfortunately, I have to say that the trailers give more than it actually plays. Basically, you can call it as a 'better tower defense game' in which you have to protect the tree in the middle. After some time, enemy shafts that you want to defend and in the meantime you collect resources.

On Steam as well as in the community, for example, on Reddit players also complain about the difficulty level (via reddit.com). Alone, it was hardly possible to play neatly. The time is not enough to do the tasks to collect resources and also to defend the base.
Together it is easier. As a suggestion proposal, some players demand that the days be longer and the nights are shorter because only at night do the attacks occur on the basis. During the day, players can explore more or less freely.

- Survival-RPG Tribes of Midgard offers boss raids, world events, and dungeons - like an MMO

Everything is bad? Despite the view that Tribes of Midgard does not quite meet the expectations, many players are still satisfied with it. The gameplay is often praised and the Nursing Tribes of Midgard is apparently a decent pastime for in between.
Even the degree of difficulty is partially praised. Also, if particularly solo players want some adaptation here, the crisp hardness seems to talk about people. Especially fans of Roguelite and Roguelike games appreciate the difficulty.

By the way, another game really tried to connect survival and RPG and recently appear on Steam - but did not get so well there:
